How is using “redwood” lumber, plastic, forced air heating and cooling, fertilizers and water consumption remotely “sustainable” when the whole thing took a hell of a toll on Mother Earth just to be put in operation (not to mention all this crap must be replaced in a relatively short period of time)? Maybe you should move out of your unnecessarily huge houses, sell your SUVs then come on back with your moralizing about “organic” gardening. When you can produce enough food to feed yourself for more than a month out of a year, then you can get on your soapbox…..

I never thought about the benefits of a trees around a greenhouse blocking sun in the summer and letting sun in during the winter its almost like trees were made with greenhouses in mind. Great video I may quote you in my future video when I talk about heating my greenhouse. I will be sure to give you credit. Thanks, great job.

Informative video. I liked the greenhouse she mentioned. Until I went to the site and seen it’s over 4000$. No thanks, I can get one from harbor freight for 200. ..

Location of the greenhouse in this video only valid for north hemisphere, for south hemisphere should be opposite to what is mentioned in this Video. After all, it’s a Good video, thx

People live in the Southern Hemisphere, so for them northern exposure instead of southern is preferred?

My question is why the green house is constructed ? What are its purposes. I am a home grower too, but I just came across your site and am curious about this concept.

"For a clean and sustainable environment"… next: "Typically greenhouses are heated by oil, gas or electricity"… That’s a bit contradictory – why would anyone want to heat the greenhouse? Where I live we just let the sun heat it during they day #Murica

  24. Shanta Hsieh on December 26, 2020 at 10:44 pm

I think you can make it yourself, just loook and learn from woodprix .

What a lovely lady. thans for the advice

  26. L Desiron on December 26, 2020 at 10:46 pm

Meh. Outdated and basic info. Oil and gas to warm a greenhouse? This is NOT sustainable AT ALL.

  32. TheBigJR on December 26, 2020 at 10:55 pm

Erm. Heating a greenhouse with electricity, oil or diesel is totally crazy. Just put the compost bins inside ghe grrenhouse and insulate the bin and yhe greenhouse. No extra heatjng needed and thd compost is ready twice as fast.

In my parents house they closed off a patio with big sliding glass windows, it gets north/west exposure, although it’s not super sunny it still gets some morning sun and evening sun. We live in New Mexico so the fact that it doesn’t get any afternoon sun is probably for the better. I turned it into a green room of sorts and really love to hang out in there.

Your greenhouse is awesome I love it!! Great job 🙂

  39. Matt Hogue on December 26, 2020 at 11:08 pm

Excellent video! I have been throwing around the idea of a BIG greenhouse. I have a little 12X12 harbor freight greenhouse. I dearly love to grow cacti, and tropicals, in addition to mushrooms (I’ll need a special place for those!)
I was thinking about using a rocket mass heater as a central heat source for the winter time, it gets pretty nasty up here in Western PA. As far as ventilation, my dad used to be a commercial HVAC tech so he can hook me up with some serious air moving equipment, and I was also thinking to add a central mister system (depending on if I’ve got an army of cacti or tropicals!)

Is there any way to make the heating/cooling a bit more efficient? I was thinking of using an air pocket and double layer glass/poly. Has anybody ever tried this?

  40. H2Dwoat on December 26, 2020 at 11:10 pm

Hi, I was thinking of trying to build a small greenhouse using up cycled materials including older double glazing panels. Would these glazed units be suitable?

  44. swann548 on December 26, 2020 at 11:15 pm

    You didn’t address shade systems.

  48. giantred on December 26, 2020 at 11:20 pm

Well not I do not think a greenhouse is viable because it gets into the 100s pretty consistently here in the summer… Maybe it would be good for every other season?
