Low Light Plants for Windowless Rooms

Yes, there are indoor plants that will grow in rooms that have no windows. In this video I transform a small, dark space into an inviting, lush reading area using plants that will thrive under artificial lighting.

If you want to skip right to the plant list in this video go to time code 7:46!

PLANTS FOR ROOMS WITH ARTIFICIAL LIGHT:

Chinese Evergreen
Bromeliades
Peace Lilies
Pothos
Philodendrons
Snake Plants
ZZ Plant
Creeping Figs

If you are a glutton for design punishment then start from the beginning.

Disclaimer: All indoor plants want natural light in general, but this handful of plants can make your office or windowless space feel a bit like the great outdoors.

  5. bablatoss on March 9, 2021 at 10:55 pm

I don’t like putting plants in a room with no windows and artificial light.

This is an awesome video… I have a very dark home with a couple good windows. Needed to know what plants to place in the periphery of the windows…cuz I can’t stop with the plants 🪴…. Thank you 🙏🏼

This is just what I was looking for. My office just moved to the lower level of the building so no windows. I grouped the usual low light mid sized office plants into the conference room with plant lights but my office is so sad without my plant family (they live in my house now)😊. I’m heading out today with my list from your video. Thanks Amanda 😁🌿🪴

I keep watching it move. It moves like a planchet on a ouija board! I hope it’s a friendly one!

Hello, and thank you for this nice video! As I understood that this room has no windows I’m just missing the information about the light you used for this room? I mean, it can’t be normal light/bulb but special ones for plant, right?

Ahh! I literally can’t get enough of your videos. I watch them repeatedly. For real though. If I find myself struggling with a plant, I find myself thinking, "I bet planterina has a video to help me with this."

It is wintertime. I have several plants not doing their best. Not terrible. Just. Like. Not doing much. Although I have been noticing new leaves. They just don’t necessarily always look the greatest. I just got a red/blue led light. Is this effective for most plants? Which light color is better?

  40. Amy Baker on March 9, 2021 at 11:32 pm

You honestly make me laugh so so much, it’s nice to know I’m not the only one that struggles to find places for my plants.
I was actually hoping to launch my own houseplant business, but first of all I don’t want to necessarily "copy" anyone else, although that’s going to be difficult. I learn a lot from your videos, you’re like my plant mom 😁❤️ but I NEEEED more plants and I NEEEED more room to put them. I’m about half way to a jungle aesthetic. If you have the time either idk maybe message me or make a video on how you started up? How you supply your plants and how you post/ship them. Cause I haven’t a clue! (I’ll be researching in the meantime)

When you say artificial lights do you mean plant lights or regular lightbulbs? 😮

  43. Jena Cole on March 9, 2021 at 11:40 pm

    Eee it moved by itself!

  44. Kathy W on March 9, 2021 at 11:42 pm

  45. Amy M on March 9, 2021 at 11:42 pm

I love listening to you and watching you decorate. I am in search of more side tables to use to raise plants up off the floor, anyway, I wanted to wish you a very happy and merry Christmas and wonderful New year!

I just shared this video with a friend, I said, "This is a good video to start with bc it really shows off her cool personality. She’s got loads of very informative videos. I end almost every day with at least one or two of her videos, then I dream about plants!" And I meant every word!
My question is though, do any of these plants do well in cooler temps? I have a virtual fitness studio (in the basement of course) that I want to be decked out with plants, if poss. But I live in Maine, so the basement is 64-69 degrees in the winter/fall.
Also, what do you use to light your videos? The lighting always looks amazing and natural!
Thank you for all your hard work educating us fellow plant lovers!
