GROWING VEGETABLES INDOORS // Tomatoes and LED Grow Light Review

In this video we are setting up an indoor garden to grow vegetables out of season or to extend your growing season. I will be doing a led grow light review on Spider Farmers SF 2000 and grow tent. Growing vegetables indoors will help you increase growing space and allow you to become a little more self sufficient and less dependent on grocery stores for out of season produce.

I have this exact light running for the first time and I and just bought my second sf2000.
Just germinated my first batch of tomato seeds (Kelloggs Bkfast & Cherokee Purple, and VF Romas).

I can already tell that my first shoots are not getting ‘leggy’ as my seedlings did last year under other Agrolite fixtures.

Planning to continue my determinate Romas going indoors under the sf2000.

Awesome lights. Love the dimmer capability. Not too much heat put off, just enough to keep the plants around 78 degrees.

    Bomb!

    EXPENSIVE !

Those vents are not for odors, they are to allow air flow and avoid mold and mildew., the plague of grow tents. And you still need to add fans to create the flow

I grow over 15 types of greens indoors now. I grow dwarf tomatoes indoors. I started dwarf Moringa trees, potatoes and dwarf Zucchini. I am planning to grow lot of dwarf tomatoes. Even potatoes to start. I am having fun experimenting. Nice video..

that light is weak sauce and probably has super low penetration.

I am trying to continue my tomatoes growing in my garage under grow lights this winter. I took cuttings, rooted them and then into soil. I now have 12 green (small) tomatoes on 3 different plants so I am hoping !

So I don’t know but is it a must to use the grow tent or can I just use a dark room

  18. Leslie Kendall on March 25, 2021 at 11:47 pm

EIGHTEEN HOURS??? That might explain it. My instructions said to make sure plants get at least 9 hours so that’s all I’ve been doing. Don’t let anyone know that I was so cranky and frustrated when I woke up yesterday that I YELLED at my plants. 😂. I’m sure the trauma should help them a bunch, too. Maybe I’ll put on some Vivaldi for them. 🤔

You still need exhaust fans to move the air around inside of the tent and exhaust heat from the light LOL. You can’t just close up plants inside of a tent, that’s a mold factory waiting to happen. You need to monitor the humidity and the temperature or problems can occur. Plants need fresh air like humans.

  24. Carlo Pedersen on March 25, 2021 at 11:53 pm

I am doing a grow like this, useing the cheapest alibaba lights i could find, running 2 rooms 1 for salad and herbs and 1 for growing tomatos, chilli, eggplants and strawberrys. Living in norway, our season is to short and this is tje way to go i beilve. I run 2 lights of 240w in both rooms, playing White the output to determine the henging height as they almost killed my plants when i ran them at 280w(light are dimable) lowered them to 150w and lowered the lights aswell as alot of plants where reaching for the lights. For the last weeks i lowered it to 100w as my chilli plant seems to get to much light and the leefs are curling, on the other hand it’s branching out well and putting on lots of flowers and the first chillis are growing well. Thanks for your uploads, seen a few of them now and it has helped me. Will be fun to follow this and see how your lights do, i was lokking at the spider farmer but i liked the ones i got better for the buck. The lights i am happy whit having 4 uv and 4 ir 2 rows of red and 10 rows white light, dimable from 100w to 280w. Next up is cucumber, will be fun to see how they react.

I’m very interested in the grow light and how this grow will come out and it would be very cool to grow together.

  26. M K on March 25, 2021 at 11:55 pm

I am interested just got the spider light. Did not get tent though.

  27. Chip van meter on March 25, 2021 at 11:56 pm

I had not too many tomatoes this year. lots of rain days and cloudy. I have a tent and lights and I am proceeding to grow my own! How do the tent tomatoes taste compared to store bought rocks? are they close to outdoor or same ? thank you waiting for the results from you

  28. Texas Proud Ken on March 25, 2021 at 11:57 pm

I assume you had some problems because there was no update?

  29. J S on March 25, 2021 at 11:58 pm

For almost $500 that makes for very expense tomatoes. Plus the cost of running the system. You got to really like lettuce to buy this system.

  30. jtuno122 on March 25, 2021 at 11:58 pm

    Is there an update video?

  31. Jenolistic on March 25, 2021 at 11:59 pm

Has there been an update? Dying to find out how well this works.

  32. wolco003 on March 25, 2021 at 11:59 pm

Very interested in your next light video as a comparison to the Spider Farmer….before I pull the trigger.

  33. Ha Ka on March 26, 2021 at 12:02 am

For a a seedling this is an overkill, you waste 200W of those 202W as a seedling would be happy with one single LED close distances instead of all those hundreds.
Of course this only matters if electricity cost is a topic in your area.

  34. Jessica Clark on March 26, 2021 at 12:03 am

    The exhaust fan comment 😂😂😂😂😂

Did you ever do updates for those of us (me) who suck at finding the videos lol.

  35. Cornwallis Trufflebudder on March 26, 2021 at 12:03 am

Lumens are for human viability. For plant photosynthetically active radiation(PAR) u wanna measure with ppfd

  36. FriedBacon on March 26, 2021 at 12:04 am

I guess this doesn’t work if you don’t have any updates 9 months after…

  37. MR Grimmer on March 26, 2021 at 12:08 am

The light may appear to have "stellar reviews" on Amazon, but FakeSpot gives it a C grade

  38. Shawn Dycus on March 26, 2021 at 12:09 am

Great content as usual. How did everything turn out in the spider farmer tent? interested in results before we make a purchase!

  39. Leslie Kendall on March 26, 2021 at 12:11 am

I have 2 grow lights now and never knew at the time of purchase how many lumens I was buying. Never knew how to find the number.
ATTENTION SHOPPERS!! To find the lumens/m2, scroll down until you see a chart that lists the "LUX" number.

  40. David e on March 26, 2021 at 12:13 am

For over $300 USD on just the growlight, if it is really an original "Spider farmer" design and not a re-branded $70 Chinese LED board, it could be nice of them to integrate a simple timer built-in to that top control/power box… oh well

  41. My Niagara Garden on March 26, 2021 at 12:14 am

Hey Brian, I’m Ryan. 🙂 Up here in Niagara, it’s starting to get a bit chilly. My 29 outdoor tomato varieties are finishing up production, and i’m thinking about doing more gardening this Fall and Winter indoors, rather than just seed starting under my lights which starts in March. I’m very interested in the Spider Farmer system and would love to show you my results as i track them through the next few months. Also, i’ve been gardening for most of my life, but only really started up a small YouTube channel in the past few months. If you’d like to take this journey together, or would simply like updates from me, please send me an email at myniagaragarden@gmail.com or check me out on YT, IG, or FB. thanks again for the great video, it’s exactly what i was looking for to get started. 🙂 Cheers, Ryan

  42. dianna daniels-orcutt on March 26, 2021 at 12:14 am

Im using a grow light that has like a purple, blue, red light im so new to this for my tomatoes should I still do 12 hours on 12 off?

  43. Chuckamus Prime on March 26, 2021 at 12:17 am

I’m thankful you went through this methodically, I’m looking into this very thing myself. Growing microgreens, starting my seeds early indoors before coldframing in the early spring, or growing veggies in the late fall/winter. My birthday is this month so I’m hoping to buy a 2×4, multi-shelf setup for my basement here in Virginia.

  44. Dank of Canada on March 26, 2021 at 12:17 am

I have almost same set up but indica and sativa variety plants in mine. That light I like it. Nice video.

I would love to do this, I want full size tomatoes. Is there a video showing your harvest?
