@nixxi1980 our food is engineered to look larger and appetizing with added hormones and chemicals in the grocery stores…If you wanted normal fruits and veggies with organic matter you would be shocked and not find them appetizing because you are used to what is considered the norm which is not healthy.

  8. Ben baker on April 1, 2021 at 11:27 pm

in response to some of the people here commenting on the ugliness of these tomatoes, some of the ugliest tomatoes are also the best tasting, and the larger they get the more you run into imperfections. as he had mentioned in the video, the tomatoes you want are the ones which form from fused blossoms, having multiple tomatoes growing fused together is how you get them to be so large.

My biggest tomato so far was a 4lb (1.8kg) "Big Zac" . It grew from a single flower, one that wasn’t fused. If it’s OK with wpsu, here is the video I made of it. Along with some decent Giant Belgium. And what a slice of it looks like on a burger.

p.s. I have this wpsu video linked on my video and in the write up below my video.

I know you are but what am I?

  26. eveny119 on April 1, 2021 at 11:56 pm

Are they actual cracks, thats due to dry soil then too much water, even out the moisture. If they are fused blossoms they are separate tomatoes that grow together, but the seams shouldnt be cracked just oddly shaped and large. You can pick off the fused blossoms just leaving the smaller singular tomatoes.

  27. Rehdman6444 on April 1, 2021 at 11:57 pm

Is there a technique to force the tomato blossoms/fruit to fuse together?

  28. Laurel Harrison on April 1, 2021 at 11:57 pm

    Very well done

  29. rockernrena on April 1, 2021 at 11:58 pm

Big zac is the most useless tomato in the world. Too much core , too ugly and tasteless… why grow for size and NOTHING else???? I grow perfectly round (not warty looking) tomatoes that range from 1 pound to 4 and a half pounds… beautiful tomatoes with excellent flavor. I’d be extremely ashamed to produce anything that even remotely resembled big zac. It should be called big zombie as ugly as it is.

HERES ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
A GUY GREW A TOMATO IN A PRESSUEISED GREENHOUSE (2BAR) EVENTUALLY IT GREW TO 115 FT AND YEILDED 117 ILS OF TOMATOES FROM ONE SEED
HE THEN GREW A RED BELLIED PIRHANA 4 FT LONG IN A 2 BAR PRESSURISED WATER TANK HOW DID HE GET THE IDEA
HE KNEW A DINOSAUR COULDNT BRETH AIR FAST ENOUGH THROUGH ITS NOSTRILS WITHOUT THE AIR BEING BRETHED BECOMING VERY HOT SO HE GUESSED BEFORE THE FLOOD, THERE WAS AN PRESURISED SYSTEM ON EARTH ENABELING HUGE CREATURES TO BREATH WITHOUT EFFORT
WELL IT LOOKS LIKE HE WAS RIGHT THE PLANT DIDNT DIE FOR 11 YRS YEILDING HALF A TON OF TOMATOES FROM THAT ONE SEED
MICHAEL JACKSON SLEPT IN A BAROMATIC CHAMBER PRESSURED AT 2 BAR SO HIS SURGERY HEALED MUCH FASTER

Yes smaller toms do taste better , but that is not what this video is teaching , is it.

  32. galaxiexl500 on April 2, 2021 at 12:01 am

Tomatoes are exceptions to your statement. I grow 4# German Johnsons and the flavor is outstanding. Three pound Cherokee Purples are common and the flavor of these almost black tomatoes cannot not be beat…IMO.

    so interesting garden

  34. rockernrena on April 2, 2021 at 12:04 am

What’s the purpose of growing a big , ugly warty looking tomato?ย  Just BIG isn’t good enough. The tomato needs to be edible and one with two or three cores from fused blossoms just doesn’t cut the mustard when it comes to fruit production. I’ve grown very nice, perfectly round, four pound tomatoes before , that are much better than an ugly ,wart ย looking cancer of a tomato that weighs twice as much.

i must send you few seeds from my country, so you may see how a big tomato looks like !

  39. Ben baker on April 2, 2021 at 12:07 am

one way to get the best flavor from tomatoes you harvest, is to harvest them just as they become ripe, or almost ripe, but not over ripe. also, do so early in the morning before the heat of the day., the plants store more sugars in the fruit at night when the temperatures drop.
I have a video or two on tomatoes all are welcome to view

i cant eat the ones at the grocery store, you can check out this years plants in my videos

  47. 7777Scion on April 2, 2021 at 12:18 am

That’s just foolish. Just because a few fruits have some ‘sunspots’ – which are very small and easily cut out – doesn’t make them look unappetizing. Quite the opposite. Those babies would have been delicious.

  49. Anonymous one on April 2, 2021 at 12:19 am

A tomato that a person would find at the grocery store will not taste good, store bought tomatoes are breed to have thick skin so they do not bruise, but it eliminates almost all of the flavor and makes them mealy. A homegrown tomato does not even taste the same as the ones in the grocery store. After eating a tomato grown yourself you will not even be able to eat a store bough one. Originally most of the tomatoes looked more like the ones in the video, not the same size of course.

Church is a pretty big tomato as well. I had one at 2.5lbs.
