Many small backyards are just a strip of land in the side and back of the home. What’s the best we can do with those ??

Creating a focal point/destination that’s visible from inside the house. Such a simple notion but adds such appeal. Great work! Thanks for the video and ideas!

With these designed spaces, why go outside- there’s no sense of being in Nature! It’s all hardscape and furniture and appliances!

  15. Sigrid Channer on April 8, 2021 at 11:55 pm

    you are AWESOME!!!

  16. Me on April 8, 2021 at 11:55 pm

  17. Rant Passions on April 8, 2021 at 11:56 pm

We had one of these covered spaces built with giant television (LOL) by the former American owners here in Nederland. After buying the property it took us over two months to tear away all the concrete, large boulders and wood and bring back the garden’s full glory. Today, it is again a normal beautiful lush flower and vegetable garden, all thanks to a talented landscaper, our garden is now the envy of the neighbourhood. I notice that Americans dont like gardens, they just want another outdoor living room with a few shrubs around (even plastic ones).

  18. Dona Glosser on April 8, 2021 at 11:57 pm

    Gorgeous designs

  19. Nancy Smith on April 8, 2021 at 11:57 pm

Enjoyed the small space ideas, covered areas and privacy ideas

  20. Rebecca DeWaele on April 9, 2021 at 12:00 am

That was very helpful! I think the top three were covered space, privacy and fire feature. I love the idea of how can I do this on a budget with things I already have around the house…

  21. Katie Agius on April 9, 2021 at 12:01 am

    I liked the covered bbq

    Lighting, lighting, and lighting…

  26. Cindy H on April 9, 2021 at 12:05 am

Great ideas! I personally don’t favour built in seating around fire features because then you can’t adjust how close / far you sit…temperatures wildly fluctuate where I live…not only from season to season but also from day to night 🙂

  27. Joshua Camacho on April 9, 2021 at 12:06 am

I love fire pits, preferably ones a whole group of people can gather around.

The bar tip!!! I am definitely going to integrate that in our small outdoor space!

  34. Mooncelt on April 9, 2021 at 12:16 am

Goodness. I enjoy the beauty and imagination of these, but wish I didn’t have to pine after something that is manageable for myself due to lack of a large budget.

  35. Mit P on April 9, 2021 at 12:16 am

Gosh, you guys did a fantastic job! There are sooo many backyards I liked and got ideas. Keep them coming!

  43. Khaldoun Samman on April 9, 2021 at 12:24 am

Swiveling stools attached to a bar is a cool idea for tight spaces. I also like the idea of using water to create noise distraction. I live near an airport. I also like the idea of using a fireplace as part of a privacy screen.

  44. Rachel Eastwood-Stone on April 9, 2021 at 12:25 am

Lots of beautiful work. And great tips. I liked the vines & bamboo. Something I already planned so its nice to see I am going the right way. My slope was quite steep & is now in 4 sections a wall backed raised planting area at the end of the garden, some lawn with space for a future outdoor art room & office. A second planting area to create privacy from a hill path & road which also helps damp out some noise. The a feature patio which I am on with at the moment. Just waiting on drainage. It’s going to be the art work. Over the patio I have planned a pergola with hanging chairs upcycling my old dining room chairs. It’s a lot of work & seems impossible to find anyone to do jobs so I am tackling it myself. Just hoping I can find someone to put the pergola up. Much as I love woodwork. It’s a big job for a 5ft 4 female with ill health. By the time the patio is laid I think I will have had enough. Lol.

that slanted roof will pour water into the neighbor’s yard…no no…

  47. BijouLover8 on April 9, 2021 at 12:28 am

Love these…but…also know from experience that water attracts frogs and mosquitoes and mildew. A lot of constant care….wind tears it apart. Lately…wind so bad my swing which is new has been beaten to death by the wind and the cushions have been indoors to avoid mildew. Yes…the birds love tp poop and bathe. Yuk
