Never, and I say NEVER plant gooseberry in Calgary. Every year they get infested with gooseberry worms (fly larva) which are half the size of the berry by the time the berries ripen. It is an absolutely disgusting and horrendous sight. I have seen tutorials on how to prevent the flies from laying these larva in the berries but all of the methods are extremely time consuming and tedious. Better off not to buy these repulsive larva- infested berries.

I suspect my soil is too alkaline for blueberries, as I tried to grow some and they did poorly. My tapwater is a ph of 8.2. are cherries tolerant of a high pH?
