Low Cost Backyard Ideas

https://hideawayscreen.com/ (Laser Cut Metal Screens)

Hello everybody – Micah Outdoor Living Guy with some low-cost options for the backyard.

1) String Lights: string lights are low cost, and they are very attractive. They light up your space adding distinction to your entire outdoor area. A low-cost option adding loads of value.

2) Simple Fire Pit: another low-cost backyard idea is a simple fire pit. You might think that’s a bit expensive, but this is something you can do yourself very easily. A wood burning fire pit with brick from a local hardware store – build the base – fill the walls.

3) Backyard Movie Theatres: a low-cost backyard idea is an outdoor movie theater. No, it does not cost that much to create a DYI. I think I spent like $30 for my screen and then a simple projector – there are many different price points.

4) Water Features: another low-cost option for a backyard idea is a water feature. You can go very cost effective with these do-it-yourself projects. A flowerpot turns into a beautiful bubbler or you could do more of a meandering water feature.

5) Wood Retaining Wall: Using wood to retain the property can be a cost-effective option instead of building it out of concrete or concrete block. or some of the other material that he could have cost option for

6) Dry Creek Beds: are cool features – they are basically River Rock which you can buy in bulk at an inexpensive price point. They create a nice destination of the nice but also do a phenomenal job of handling drainage.

7) Gravel Patio: on a budget – use gravel as a patio. You can do this in a way that makes it look like it was stylistically what you chose instead of a low-cost option.

8) Hammocks: Create a little destination using a hammock.

9) Privacy Screens: Privacy is a huge concern for many people and there are many low-cost options.

  4. Camden Marshall on July 11, 2021 at 2:07 am

I love the movie screen idea. We have a ~10 year old treehouse in the backyard that we don’t use anymore and that might be a good spot for us to hang it on

  5. Jenny L on July 11, 2021 at 2:08 am

That’s a great video to build backyard project on a budget. I’m finding professional to design my backyard with a low cost.

I’ve been looking for an appealing way to keep our trampoline where we don’t have lawn but still allow our grandkids to walk around outside it without shoes when they get in and out. Mulch is too messy cuz our dog kicks it up when he runs. No luck on pinterest or you tube so far. Do you have low cost, attractive ideas for the area under and around a trampoline? We’re thinking of maybe artificial grass. 🤔

I love it! Do you have an idea on how to extend my deck fence. It isn’t high enough and it could be a safety issue for the children. There’s a 4” gap from the metal railing.

  8. Robin Escotto on July 11, 2021 at 2:11 am

Water features and privacy walls were my favorite.

  22. Joe Rod on July 11, 2021 at 2:28 am

My problem is I have neighbors overlooking my yard from every angle 2 on each side and about 5 facing directly to my yard. All I can think of is place trees on the corners, center and a fireplace with walls besides it on the center of my yard. Still planning on how to make it flow properly.

  23. R D on July 11, 2021 at 2:29 am

    Thanks many wonderful ideas.

  24. Flusenmonster on July 11, 2021 at 2:30 am

My favourite idea is the concrete sitting bench with the wooden slats and the metal fire pit (03:12). Definitely a DIY option which won`t leave you bankrupt.

  25. chelin7023 on July 11, 2021 at 2:30 am

Gravel is under utilized. For me, walking over has the same soothing effect as dribbling water. Walkways to a hidden bench is another budget friendly project. It could doble as a meditation/ reading corner.

Great ideas, I’m building in Florida and have to figure out my best options to keep the alligators and other creatures out of my way

Love the string lights and gravel ideas!

  30. melody Hart on July 11, 2021 at 2:36 am

When the budget is small, people need to learn to not to pay full retail, also with the thrift stores,it may to take you a year to get to get to your goal, but you can get there !

  31. Teresa Benton on July 11, 2021 at 2:39 am

The string lights were a great idea. I’m going to use shade sails instead of a hard covered patio.

  32. Carmel Rose on July 11, 2021 at 2:40 am

I love the metal piracy fencing and movie screen. Thanks for the tips.

  33. Brenda Capestany on July 11, 2021 at 2:40 am

Take a shot every time he says "destination"

  38. Robin Escotto on July 11, 2021 at 2:46 am

We try to use a little of our tax return each year to do a small project…usually $500-600. We’ve also used our home depot credit with no interest and then pay it off in 3 months. My husband built a pergola over our deck, a small shed, and one year, we found "you haul it away" free river rock on the fb marketplace. We bought a $50 fireplace and made benches from the tree trunk of the tree he removed to build the pergola. Oh, and I made a movie screen from. A white sheet and pvc pipe that we can hang from the eve of our house. We have a used projector we got from a friend. Things can be done inexpensively with some creativity and elbow grease. We even had a hammock between 2 trees with Christmas lights in the trees. Need to remember when sprinklers cube on tho. Lol. Thx for this video. I have a few more ideas now.

While this is all very beautiful it’s not low cost at all. Not only that but these are being shown in already beautiful back yards with thousands of dollars invested in them. Show them in basic back yards that look more realistic. The person with a firepit mounted on the side of their pool probably isn’t looking for the low cost way to add a movie theater to their pool.

  44. nancydrew5 on July 11, 2021 at 2:56 am

    This is misleading
I thought I’d see backyard ideas on a budget. Not million dollar homes with backyard ideas where money is no object.

  45. Bono cat on July 11, 2021 at 2:58 am

Low Cost Backyard Ideas don’t have yards like this video. Completely unrealistic.

  46. Atticus Shaw on July 11, 2021 at 3:01 am

    Fire pit sitting area

  47. Earline Guy on July 11, 2021 at 3:03 am

I loved entire video and it gave me an idea to build a bar along with seating wall.

  48. Lin MK on July 11, 2021 at 3:03 am

How many times did he say destinations? I don’t think I need to travel this year anymore.

  49. Erin Slankard on July 11, 2021 at 3:03 am

How about show us what a budget makeover would look like on a crappy yard instead of these million dollar homes that obviously have no “budget”

  50. Marie Damon on July 11, 2021 at 3:03 am
