We’re terrible at gardening…but we’re pretty good at making stuff! So, we decided to make a project that could help us with our gardening problem: a raised planter box! This easy DIY project is perfect for the Spring season and you can easily build it in a single day with easy-to-find materials and tools you probably already have. There are loads of benefits to building a raised garden bed, too!

This modern raised planter box is built from cedar, which is an excellent material for outdoor woodworking and DIY projects like this.

I love Dad it looks very nice and modern..
    But I have a question ⁉️
By painting a black doesn’t it fade away with the sun and the rain ?

  2. mike swade on July 14, 2021 at 2:32 am

Nice box. But why put the plastic in if you need drainage?

  3. Levonne Resto on July 14, 2021 at 2:33 am

you guys make it look so easy lol can you make me one and i’ll buy it ! haha

  5. Nevada Jones on July 14, 2021 at 2:41 am

  6. Kamal mahdi on July 14, 2021 at 2:41 am

  7. Elliott W on July 14, 2021 at 2:42 am

Built one for mom using your plans as a birthday gift. She loves it! $5 well spent, Thanks!!

  8. Marcus Wright on July 14, 2021 at 2:42 am

What was the sheen of the varnish that you used, was it satin or high gloss? Your pickets look thicker than the traditional pickets do you recall what the thickness was?

  9. Aamir Ahmed on July 14, 2021 at 2:43 am

Did you guys have any water retention/ logging issues?

  10. G Tia Ransom on July 14, 2021 at 2:45 am

What brand planer do you use? Where do you suggest buying one?

  11. cnoyes98 on July 14, 2021 at 2:46 am

This looks so beautiful and the design is very thoughtful, but I would honestly be worried about durability over time, despite the addition of the battens. That’s a lot of weight of wet dirt on thin fence pickets. I would be concerned that the wood will decay and degrade over time and it could cause problems after a few years.

  12. Universe Love on July 14, 2021 at 2:46 am

How’s the Phaedra bed so far ?

  13. Donna Gagner on July 14, 2021 at 2:47 am

Is that black plastic food grade? You don’t want chemicals leaching into your vegetables

  14. Jesse Watts on July 14, 2021 at 2:47 am

This video is epic. I have watch 10 times

  17. Tony Kempen on July 14, 2021 at 2:48 am

I was looking for something similar to this on Wayfair, but its discontinued now
😢. So glad I found your DIY video guys, I’m gonna hook up with a friend who has all the tools and make an afternoon of it. Do the plans also have all the measurements for drill holes etc?

    So cool!!!!!

  20. Myke Sheets on July 14, 2021 at 2:51 am

Super clean looking planter box, just purchased the build file (was drafting it up myself but as a thanks to you to for the design. To those who like this and want to build one similar, I highly recommend you do the same, one, it’s the right thing to do for these folks and two, you will likely waste both time designing and money trying to duplicate it. A few bucks well spent!!!

  21. Victoria Zengo on July 14, 2021 at 2:51 am

is that black plastic okay to use with your plants? wont leech bpa etc?

  22. Louverture Jones on July 14, 2021 at 2:52 am

You guys are amazing! I am learning so much from your videos…Thank You from me and the family!

  23. Vivek Bhatia on July 14, 2021 at 2:54 am

I read that for cedar or redwood, you need to use a special oil based primer first otherwise the paint will peel off after 1-2 years. How’s the black paint holding up?

  24. Eduardo & Molly Gonzalez on July 14, 2021 at 2:54 am

Did you sand and finish both sides of the wood planks?

  25. Josephine Colgan on July 14, 2021 at 2:57 am

    Thank you

  26. Steve Flagg on July 14, 2021 at 2:58 am

great video im pretty new into woodworking and hopefully will do this project i am just curious, we will likley be replacing our mesh above ground pool cover, all the water and snow pass through the cover so im thinking why not re purpose the cover and use it in bottom of planter as well what are your thoughts on that? thanks

  27. K LE on July 14, 2021 at 2:58 am

Hello, I’m using mainly cedar board picket fences that are usually only 19/32" thick for the whole build. I’d like to pocket holes the corner posts with pocket hole screws as well as a "picture frame" top trim. Do you know if Kreg have these blue kote screws in 1" or 3/4?. thx

  28. EagleRun23 on July 14, 2021 at 2:59 am

Curious how the pocket holes on the fence pickets have held up?

  29. William Leveson-Gower on July 14, 2021 at 2:59 am

I am interested in purchasing the plans. What are its external dimension? 6 feet long x 3 feet wide x 2 feet deep?

  30. Barnes on July 14, 2021 at 2:59 am

You could use those cedar cutoffs to make wind spiral whirligigs. Make for nice gifts

  31. Tammy Galusky on July 14, 2021 at 2:59 am

I love this! You guys make it look super easy, we’ll see! 😊

  32. Rita Zuniga on July 14, 2021 at 3:02 am

I recreated this as a birthday present for my mother. it came out absolutely perfect 🥰

  33. K LE on July 14, 2021 at 3:05 am

Do you have to pre-finish the boards with spar urethane before assembly, or can you assemble everything first?

  34. Stephanie Manier on July 14, 2021 at 3:06 am

This is so nice. First time doing it, but excited to try!

  35. Fortnite Eventos on July 14, 2021 at 3:09 am

I’m trying to build this but I only have the pencil and the measurement tape

  36. Dolly Cutruzzula on July 14, 2021 at 3:10 am

Thoughts on adding a trellis to this to create a privacy wall?

  37. Dee Dee on July 14, 2021 at 3:11 am

    Lol hilarious love it! 😂

  38. David Olson on July 14, 2021 at 3:14 am

Looks great! I recommend not varnishing cedar – it has natural oils that protect the wood…and varnish is very challenging to maintain.

  39. Mark Taylor on July 14, 2021 at 3:17 am

Where did you buy the clamps at 6:23?

  40. Mark Taylor on July 14, 2021 at 3:17 am

How long are the pocket screws? 1.25 inch too?

  41. Roy Lowe on July 14, 2021 at 3:20 am

You put plastic in the bottom. Doesn’t that stop the drainage.

Why two pieces of landscape material?

  42. Trevor Kerth on July 14, 2021 at 3:22 am

    Loved building this!

  43. Michael Jandik on July 14, 2021 at 3:23 am

Hello, I want to know how I can download the plans for this planter again? I bought them already, but I cannot find my printed copy now and I am planning to build this tomorrow. Please help. Thanks

  44. Rob Hartz on July 14, 2021 at 3:23 am

great job i just finished mine today. I used the same spar urethane but oil based. Are you concerned with using spar urethane on a garden bed given potential toxicity? or is that what the main reason for the landscape fabric and plastic?

  45. Crypto Mining Noob on July 14, 2021 at 3:25 am

People go on YouTube not to pay for stuff and here these people are charging people for the plans. Lol reminds me of early eBay where people sold plans to tables and planter boxes lol gg…

  46. Pamela Skaggs on July 14, 2021 at 3:27 am

What are the dimensions of the finished planter box?

  47. Valerie Porras on July 14, 2021 at 3:27 am

what was the brand, sheen and number paint that was used for the 2×4’s?

  48. demanef on July 14, 2021 at 3:28 am

Great work ,and a "fine design" ; that is a good example for making it –

  49. madmightyfish87 on July 14, 2021 at 3:29 am

Awesome video!!! I bought the plans!!! But what is the count/description of the materials you bought from the store BEFORE cutting them to size?!

  50. Rockey Singh on July 14, 2021 at 3:29 am

Hi there you folks did a very nice job, of showing various parts of the construction. For me that is 100% out of 100%.
But was the word awesome not overused
