Oh look, isnt that Cute, they gave a Gold Medal to a Bouldering intermediate, while competing against the greatest Bouldering Climbers in history.

They’re so fast it looks like the ropes are pulling them up.

I understand why they multiply the scores together, there would be many ties otherwise, but it still feels wrong somehow. 7th place placed well, 3rd 4th 5th, but his score looks much worse than the other guys, like 4th place’s 2nd 3rd 6th. To my intuition, that’s not nearly twice as good. Something should change in the scoring, maybe more of a points thing, not scoring by placement in each category.

All the spectators pulling their masks down to talk to someone right next to them. NO ONE knows what the f**k the masks are for. The world has been tricked like a bunch of pathetic lemmings.

I mean climbing is definitely a skill …. But I think we’re reaching a little to much with Olympic Sports

  9. User User on August 14, 2021 at 9:45 pm

I think the next olympics should include cookie baking, laundry folding, and yugioh

  10. uvrocker on August 14, 2021 at 9:48 pm

This clearly shows the limitations of including ‘SPeed’ event with the other True climbing disciplines – Bouldering and Lead…they require very different skills, and even the stalwarts agree it should not be part of sports climbing and be a individual event of its own… This has made a not so comparable skillful person the Gold medalist here!

  18. Rin on August 14, 2021 at 9:52 pm

Why is the score multiplied? It disproportionately rewards 1st place and punishes later finishes

  24. MDTalwaysMee on August 14, 2021 at 9:59 pm

I wish the cameras would give us a true perspective before rotating. As someone who’s never seen this sport before, it’s challenging to understand the athletes’ orientation to the wall.

I rather not even watch the video at all than sit through a 15 second unskippable youtube ad

  30. MrLetter on August 14, 2021 at 10:09 pm

Yeah, let’s give the gold to one of these speed climbing a-holes that can’t do any other climbing because the IOC thinks all climbing is the same.

  31. Aidan Clemenson on August 14, 2021 at 10:10 pm

The scoring format is awful. The gold medal winner did pretty well in speed, awful in bouldering and mediocre in lead but still wins. Making it multiplication also means that getting 1st is huge, while getting 2nd and 3rd means nothing. Notice how none of the top 3 placed 2nd or 3rd in any event. The person who got last placed 5th, 4th, and 3rd, so they were consistent across the board. Shouldn’t combined be about how consistent people are?

  36. Saleh Cheema on August 14, 2021 at 10:17 pm

So he got last in bouldering and got gold?

  38. owen friberg on August 14, 2021 at 10:19 pm

Speed climbing is not actually climbing it shouldn’t be in with lead and bouldering because people like Adam are clearly world class climbers but since most real climbers struggle with speed it’s hard for anyone super strong to get gold because they don’t focus on speed

  39. Cleta Alfredo on August 14, 2021 at 10:19 pm

The three pajama phylogentically attend because parentheses biochemically complain between a sticky purple. outrageous, utopian sharon

  41. Brandon Y on August 14, 2021 at 10:21 pm

I think this event is really awesome! I love watching people climb walls…I could never do it…I don’t have the finger strength.

Me the whole time: *hands start sweating 👁👄👁

  43. Laura Perez on August 14, 2021 at 10:22 pm

can y’all stop criticizing his performance as if you could do better? He did great and could’ve done even better, he’s only 18!!! I agree that this isn’t the best format, but he genuinely did good and I’m sorry your favorite didn’t win. Anyways, congrats Alberto, Spain is extremely proud of you

For the next olympics hopefully the disciplines will be separated so climbers get equal opportunities. Alberto would still get gold in speed climbing, he did excellent.

  44. jibba jABBA on August 14, 2021 at 10:23 pm

if its one thing a spanish guy knows how to do well, its climb a wall

  45. Jungbae Eriel on August 14, 2021 at 10:23 pm

They virtually made a triathlon event under the umbrella term ‘climbing.’
Usain Bolt should have run a 100m, a 1600m and a marathon right? Genius IOC to approve this format

  46. Cesar Berlanga on August 14, 2021 at 10:24 pm

This sport looks amazing. I hope it continues to develop and permanently stays as an Olympic sport. This should be added at the high school level.

Congrats to Alberto but the combined format and the entire sport climbing event in its Olympics debut was a farce.
