First thank you for this video. Doing a raised garden for FIRST time ever, and this video was Perfect. So very easy to follow and straight to the point.

Question: now that I know the three ingredients, exactly HOW do I put them in the box?

    1. Do I do it in LAYERS? If so, which layer goes on bottom of empty box? Which is second? Which is third?

    2. Or do I just mix ALL the ingredients into one big pile—then fill up the box?

    Thank you
    Judy from Colorado

Good job…if u are any where close to cattle raising u might look on your local "buy sale trade" sites for old mineral tubs they are really thick plastic I doubt if they ever break down. Any ways they are a bi product essentially they come in 5 gal 10 gal 20 gal…and cheap $5 give or take

Do you mix pretty much everything together? or do you do like the nutrient (compost/topsoil) layer first, then water retention, drainage?

  11. helen clayton on October 6, 2021 at 8:22 am

Thanks for your video you have helped me a lot 😊

  12. B Scall on October 6, 2021 at 8:22 am

Thank you sooooo much! I like how you categorized everything. So do you mix everything together before adding it in or do you first put down the drainage, then the retention and finally add the nutrition on top? Also, do you recommend adding branches/logs, leaves, and grass clippings to the bottom of your beds?

Thank you so much for explaining the levels of soil.
I’ve been searching for this information for the past few days.
Today I filled my raised planter to the top with compost, potting mix, veggie mix and garden mix🤦🏽‍♂️
    Luckily I haven’t planted anything 🤣

  41. LaVonda D on October 6, 2021 at 8:57 am

Thoughts on using small lava rocks for drainage? When you speak of the different levels is level 1 on the bottom? So soil and compost on bottom then level 2 on top of that or opposite?

  42. Ruth Valencia on October 6, 2021 at 8:58 am

Its middle of march for me right now. Is it ok to use compost? I would start planting in a few weeks?

  43. Taylor Moore on October 6, 2021 at 9:00 am

Be careful of particle size discrepancy when it comes to your choice of drainage substrates. if you add two different varying sizes inorganics you tend to get a concrete effect where the coarser and finer particle sizes compact with the break down of soil. I’m pretty sure vermiculite breaks down with freeze thaw cycles tho so if you have those you should be fine.

Mr. McWaller, great video s I mentioned before. I am now getting ready to put the bags into my raised bed. Do i just pour it all in and mix it in the bed or do I need to pre-mix all of it in something else and then transfer into my bed. I hope you see this comment today.

  45. Carl Scogland on October 6, 2021 at 9:01 am
