That’s incredible! And the balconies look so pretty with all the foliage. It really makes urban spaces look so much cheerier when there are spots of greenery like that.

Two of my favourite gardening channels in one! Mumbai Balcony Gardener is so inspiring to me because I have a similar small growing space in my tiny apartment here in Malaysia.

  8. Anna Ryan on October 28, 2021 at 10:23 am

Wow! Now that is utilizing small spaces effectively!!! Thanks for the inspiration!!! 💖👍😊kudos to your Mumbai friend!!! Truly amazing, but what I think impressed me most about her is that she persevered through and made it work no matter her limited space!

Thanks a whole bunch Kim and CG for featuring my work in your small spaced garden series , really an honor for me and a first too , my first ever interview on a gardening platform , really happy and humbled . You have an amazing and large audience , so hopefully there will be folks who will be inspired to grow something if not everything and experience the joys of picking your own produce , however tiny it may be . There will also be those who will realize how blessed they are to have a yard , however small it may be after seeing footage of my garden . I have not let space constraints restrict me – a balcony garden , composting , indoor worm bins , stingless bee hives , we are a family of 6 with 4 kids and 12 cats . I am thankful to both of you for your friendship and I cannot ever forget how you welcomed a total new comer like me into the gardening world with open arms almost 6 years ago . By the way , do you know that the name MBG was coined by you and now people know me as MBG ??

  18. CamiWins on October 28, 2021 at 10:32 am

WHAT!? How have I not heard of her? That’s so inspiring. My balcony only gets 2-4 hours of sun at best (with just one tiny corner that can get 6 hours although i have a small railing planter that’s 6” deep there at the moment which is probably not best for tomatoes or peppers). But seeing how much she’s still able to grow I’m even more motivated. Thank you so much for this series! Would it be possible to get a list together of plants that people with partial sun gardens can grow?

  19. KiraiBK on October 28, 2021 at 10:33 am

Wow. She’s done an amazing job growing so much food. Great job, Samiya! The lazy composting sounds good to me!

  23. Ruby Arias on October 28, 2021 at 10:37 am

This is so awesome and inspiring!! Showed it to my mother in law that lives outside the US and is always complaining that everything is so expensive and they don’t have much to eat. Now she has no excuse to grow stuff given the fact she has more space than Mumbai balcony gardener.

This took me back to 2005, when I was lucky enough to visit India. Such lovely people–and so creative in utilizing their limited space in highly populated areas. I love your ingenuity, Samiya. And your spirit of gratitude reminds me to practice the same attitude.

  26. Kim Trinh on October 28, 2021 at 10:44 am

I love your videos Kim. I live in Toronto and its also a concrete jungle. Gardening real estate in a backyard is more common in affluent neighbourhoods. Many of us have to use our tiny balcony. Thank you for these small space gardening videos, it really shows you are reaching out to a variety of viewing audience.

I am so inspired by Mumbai Balcony Gardener. My take away from this was not to give up and learn from your mistakes so that next season is better. Great collaboration. Thank you ladies.

  43. Jodie Thuy on October 28, 2021 at 11:01 am

Do you have problems with wild animals? This year I got some kind of animal digging up my garden bed, disturbing my soil from the winter until now! Any suggestion for this would be appreciated!

  44. aksh dj on October 28, 2021 at 11:04 am

I love gardening but I have a Teares in that 3 types of tomatoes 🍅, 2 types of chillies, basil, various types of beans, peas, yard beans, peanuts, coriander, eggplants and more are growing in very little space. In our area there are many trees around that’s why bees are more on Teares. Eggplants grow like crazy in my containers.

  45. Sushy on October 28, 2021 at 11:05 am

Great interview! I love seeing how other balcony gardeners make it happen. I also have quite a small space that I try to use more.
