Fruit fly in South Australia – How to stop fruit fly in your backyard

What to do if a fruit fly outbreak occurs in your area.

PIRSA teams are out applying safe, organic bait during a fruit fly outbreak to people’s backyards. It’s important to bait regularly to kill fruit flies. They also pick up fruit to break a fruit fly’s life cycle.

You can help by checking your fruit – if you see any maggots in your fruit, call our Fruit Fly Hotline on 1300 666 010.

Please don’t compost your fruit if you’re in a red fruit fly outbreak area. Put it in your green bin. Please don’t share or move your fruit.

Allow our teams access to your backyard or front yard so they can apply bait quickly.

If fruit fly isn’t controlled we can’t sell produce. South Australia is the only mainland state that is fruit fly free. Our growers depend on your help to eradicate fruit fly.
