Get the most out of your greenhouse

Greenhouse organisation will help you to get the most out of your greenhouse, no matter its size. You can be more productive and enjoy your greenhouse growing. I only have a 6ft by 8ft greenhouse and I get huge harvests and grow all my seedlings for my entire garden in there throughout the year.

I use a method of making specific zones in the greenhouse for the different activities I do, making sure that everything I need is close to hand or easily accessible. I also think about the seasons and what I need in spring, summer, autumn and winter to make my greenhouse both efficient and productive all year round.

I’ll also share some of my top tips for greenhouse storage solutions because when you have limited space, you need to get creative.

Great video, would you have a link for the seed/photo storage box, looks a great idea 💡

  2. Emma Corre on November 26, 2021 at 12:27 pm

Waiting for our first greenhouse to be delivered🎉. This video was full of great tips, it can be so overwhelming at times…but your videos are all inspiring and practical … thank you ☺️

I love your 2 plank trough storage that’s resting on the brackets….ingenious ❤️

  4. richardwmanley on November 26, 2021 at 12:32 pm

aaaahhhhh I haven’t even sown my tomatoes seeds yet and look at yours!!!

  5. Michael D. on November 26, 2021 at 12:33 pm

Most excellent tips, Eli. I especially liked your seed-storage box (although, I love the looks of the vintage metal box you once used).

Alas, my organizational skills suck, big time. I just go from one potting to the next with no real plan. It’s a required man thing, I guess.

Regardless, between the incessant complaints of my wife, Lilly, and the teachings of this video, I’m going to make an effort to aspire to organize things in the greenhouse a little better. I can do that, and as long as I can still keep the garage in its current state of organized chaos, I’ll be happy with the results.

You were so right about over planting seedlings. I planted enough romaine lettuce to feed a school for wayward girls, and they all finally ripened … all at once. Today, I was out knocking on the neighbor’s doors (wearing my mask) to give away lettuce, and I had a hard time of it: apparently, most are at church on Sunday mornings. But, I was finally able to pom off eight heads without scaring too many children.

This last: I noticed you finally got a thumbs-down vote. Which is proof that one of your viewers is an asshat. Oh, well, what cha gonna do?

Your friend, Tim from California, ha,ha; also known as Michael Donahoe … Michael is my first name, remember?).

The V shelf is genius! I wouldn’t be surprised if Rhino start making one now! And the photo storage box is a great idea too!

  9. Ged Huffadine on November 26, 2021 at 12:36 pm

Eli! A priority for me is a chair where I can drink a beer and watch my plants grow when its cold outside. Do your glass house have full sun

  10. Carolina C. on November 26, 2021 at 12:37 pm

Thank you for sharing! Can you please link the brand/manufacturer of your glass greenhouse?

  11. Gardener Scott on November 26, 2021 at 12:39 pm

Great tips, Eli! Your #1 tip is spot on. I’m building my greenhouse right now and am thinking ahead to how I need to get it ready for planting. It’s been a few years since I grew in a greenhouse and your insight is great to remind me what’s important.

Greetings from the Netherlands. Very happy to have discovered your channel. Just bought a secondhand wooden greenhouse, about the same size as yours, very excited to set it up and get growing!

  15. Geoffrey Maddison on November 26, 2021 at 12:43 pm

Awesome 👍. I’m liking the way you are one organised kooky 🤔. Nice greenhouse, what size? Million Dollar question, (if I might be so bold) how much? Best wishes Geoff Maddison.

  16. Barry Whelan on November 26, 2021 at 12:45 pm

Love the idea of the v shelf!

  17. WillowMoon on November 26, 2021 at 12:47 pm

So glad I found your channel! Instantly warmed to you and your way of making it sound super easy and fun. Wondered if you give any advice on windowsill growing herbs/tomatoes in any of your videos? I’ve been bindging them and noted a few good tips but notice you pot your plants on outdoors or to the green house, if I covered my herbs/ tomatoes with plastic could this act the same as your greenhouse methods? From a fellow Scot residing in Glasgow 😜 take care x

  18. WhiteLotus on November 26, 2021 at 12:48 pm

Just found your videos last week and love them as I just got my new Palram Harmony 6X8’ Greenhouse delivered yesterday but have to prepare the area first before I can start the build. Wanted to ask where did you purchase that wee red tray you have over the green planting soil basin as I found that and would love the red part too? I’m Scottish but live in the US so thank you for all your great gardening posts! 👍🏼🧑‍🌾🥬🍓🍃🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

  19. Baron Wolf on November 26, 2021 at 12:49 pm

Great video! With this being my first spring with the greenhouse I realized that 1. I am a pack rat and need to decide what I really do need in the greenhouse and what can go. 2. I installed a sink in my staging that is powered by the rain barrel in my garden. Well I don’t use it in the winter and haven’t set it up. The sink has turned into a “catch all” for random things. I’m thinking it’s taking up valuable space…when the rain barrel is just outside the greenhouse door.

    Thanks for all the tips!

  20. Judith Wilson on November 26, 2021 at 12:50 pm

Hi, I bought a Rhino greenhouse. Love it. And………the roof windows keep opening even when its 26 degrees (cozy for plants) inside but only 8 degrees outside . We don’t want the automatic louvers to open when we are trying to keep it cozy inside. Any ideas? We were told to turn the adjuster to full left, which we did, but still opening when we have the heater on inside at night. Hmm?

  24. Deeside Allotment on November 26, 2021 at 12:54 pm

Your greenhouse looks so organised! I need to sort mines, it’s a bit wild

  25. C Saville on November 26, 2021 at 12:55 pm

Another really useful video. The timing of the content was excellent.

My greenhouse was finally put up last week and I’ve temporarily got heat in there until the electrician comes to finish the job. Got the tomatoes and cucumbers in today and I’m about to have a wander up to make sure its working still. I’ve got sleepers stacked in the garden awaiting my fixings for three raised beds and my propagator is going to get a new influx of seeds to germinate now.

Huge amount to do in the garden this year and once again thank you so much for the have given me and by the looks of the comment section a huge amount of other people!

I don’t have a greenhouse, but this year I finally thought about what I’m going to be planting in the summer and fall. One step at a time. Any recommendations for a winter bed?

  35. My little greenhouse on November 26, 2021 at 1:02 pm

I am building a lean to greenhouse in front of my concrete shed I v been think of space it’s 8 foot by 5 foot I want to put a raised bed in there because of this year’s disastrous wether it’s rain cold and most of my plants can’t go out but. I also need shelves in there for seeds starting would you put a raised bed in a greenhouse before I start to biuld it in as I might make a huge mistake

  36. unconventionalMi on November 26, 2021 at 1:05 pm

Your videos inspire me so much! I don’t have a greenhouse nor the space for one, but it makes me happy to look around yours and daydream 🙂 thank you!

So many clever ideas, I love the V shelf and the cane. Brilliant video xx

  38. Jim Thomson on November 26, 2021 at 1:06 pm

Im lucky in that I have a really good potting shed so my greenhouse is only for my sown seeds, my seedlings and my young plants. I only grow dwarf tomatoes now and I only have four seedlings. My heated mats and propagators are in my "gym" in the house so its a mix of greenhouse and home for my propagation. Take care you two

  39. frugalfifer on November 26, 2021 at 1:06 pm

Thank you so much for your detailed and informative videos. Just dismantled and brought home my very first glass greenhouse which was free. Its been something I’ve wanted for 20 years but always missed out on. It’s an 8×6 and I’m so pleased to have come across your channel. Pen and paper at the ready to write down what I want to achieve.

Great video with lots of great tips. I store my seeds alphabetically (some people store them by sowing date) in Bold Gel Washing Capsule containers. They hold loads of packets of seeds.

  46. Angela Stazknee on November 26, 2021 at 1:17 pm

Thank you for my Sunday morning lesson (your videos come out at 10am central time USA). In fact, I had my cup of tea in my hand when you mentioned it! I liked seeing how you stored your seeds. I recently asked my elderly golf teacher (82 years old) why the seed packets held so many seeds and this was his Ozark folklore saying from Missouri: ‘1 for the mouse, 1 for the crow, 1 to rot & 1 to grow!’ The beauty of the greenhouse, you don’t have to worry about the mouse or the crow !!!!!!! Keep up the great work Eli.

Hi sorry not entirely greenhouse planning but it is planning ahead Could you tell me how wide your copper tape is that you use for slug repellent as I’ve just ordered my quad grow and want to get slug ready🥴

  50. Liam Hill on November 26, 2021 at 1:23 pm

I really need fixed raised shelving to keep the slugs off, but I’m too tight to buy the rhino ones 😄 such an important topic when planning your gardening year. 👍
