How To Hardscape Aquariums, Terrariums & More (Step-by-Step Relaxing Tutorial)

How To Hardscape Aquariums, Terrariums & More (Step-by-Step Relaxing Tutorial)

In this one, I do something that many of you have been requesting for years now. I’ll give you an in-depth look at how I scape my tanks. I also set up a few for demonstration. I wanted to show the ENTIRE process, so it’s a long one!

I really hope that many of you get some good takeaways. If I were to scape a tank for real, I would do exactly what you see in this video. Keep practicing, experiment, and always remember to stop scaping and listen! I’m telling you, it helps me a lot and I know it can help you too.

Originally I planned to put this on my second channel, but as I worked through the video, I thought it could be more appropriate for this channel. It’s also my longest video yet! Can’t get enough? Then is probably the video for you. Enjoy!

I enjoyed and learned a lot from you..,my funny experience while doing the hardscape is that…I did the hardscape and and everything and put water…my tank sitting just beside my bed and the funny thing I like the side view rather than front view but it’s fine..,I often view my tank while side lying on my bed😀

Wow I really love your work! I wish that I could still build things and care for a beautifully scaped aquarium but I only have the use of 1 hand now so my aquarium days are over, 🙁

I am unable to find a list of products you recommend without going through a lot of your videos (which I don’t mind doing a couple of times) it would be awesome if you had a pinned list. Unless you can recommend a good book on specific materials needed, thanks

You have such a great eye for design. Where did you get manzanita? Hahahaha!😉
Ive done a few miniature landscapes
and had fish tanks for years but I just kind of winged it. I made a living doing landscaps and ponds water featurs but its nice to sit back and watch you creat! 😁 Thanks you have given me some ideas.

@7:51, I see your point—line your rocks up so that they look like they formed there (unless you want a Fred Flinstone star destroyer attacking a giant asteroid)

This is very cool but when you put something like this in a aquarium what does it do to the pH of the water and what about toxicity to fish? Do you have recommendations for what is safe for what kind of fish – say I want to keep my pH around 6.5 I’m thinking that I want to use more wood than stone… I would like to do something like this but providing a healthy environment for my fish is my top concern if that makes any sense.

  28. Duke Allen on December 11, 2021 at 1:32 pm

You put up quality videos….NO loud grating music that distracts persons focus on what it is that is being presented…..Your voice is easy to listen to……Maybe MOST important your examples of whatever point you are focused on making comes through quite clearly. Your visual arts training comes through loud and clear in many ways……KUDOS to you!!

It’s pretty rare that I am pleased with lots of medium size rocks, plus lots of stick in a composition. Just ends up feeling chaotic. Once it’s planted, you loose touch with the hardscape anyway. I guess I’m just a less is more kind of girl.

  33. Nanette Rivera on December 11, 2021 at 1:41 pm

Have you ever siliconed pieces to keep them in a scape from moving?

  34. Stevebomer on December 11, 2021 at 1:42 pm

Man this was such an awesome scape video, I’ll definitely use this as my bible, I bet you can even fit a mini BOAT into one of these and it would still look amazing

The stone at 13:03 kinda looks like the sorting hat from Harry Potter

  44. SerpaDesign on December 11, 2021 at 1:52 pm

I typically show a 1-2 minute clip of me scaping when I do. Although I think that will suffice in most cases, I wanted to do it differently in this one. I think it could be really helpful if you see the entire process from start to finish. Let me know which scape is your favorite!

Also, this is my longest video yet! This was originally intended for the second channel, but I felt that it was more appropriate for this channel. I really hope you all enjoy it and learn something that can take your art to the next level.
