Indoor Garden: Sunny Window Shelf Extension

Indoor Garden: Sunny Window Shelf Extension

A sunny window is an ideal location for growing fruits and vegetables inside your home. Sometimes it takes a little bit of creativity to make the most of that precious sunshine.

In this video, Jonathan and Benjamin install simple, inexpensive 12-inch shelves in our south-facing windows. This project dramatically increased the available sunny growing space for less than $30. Best of all, the method that they chose makes it easy to remove the shelving if you are living in a rental unit. Now anyone can grow their own food in a sunny window.

Great idea, and adds some nice bit of freshness to the room as well.
I managed to grow ginger plants on my windowsill in a somewhat sun deprived woodland clearing in dull Wales.
A couple of ideas come to mind to help with seedlings or how to extend small windows. To get more even light for seedling and prevent legginess add a low wall (maybe cardboard) to the shelf on the room side with mylar or aluminium foil covering to reflect the light onto the back. The downsidie is that it would probably lower the temperature a little.
To extend a small window create a shallow greenhouse on the outside of the window extending it beyond the edge of the window and open the window to the house. The greenhouse would have to be made with double glazing. It would probably be a little cooler than the windowsill but could add extra growing space if window space is very limited.

Use a 6ft tall wire shelving rack in front of the window to have multiple tiers using the full window.

Make straight the path of the Angel of the Lord from the book of Revelation 10 and the Angel of the LORD is also prophesied by Kim Clement with those of our President. He is GOLD, Humble, Young, Grey, a genius and of David his teacher. He is the true Chief of our Nation. Bring forth the Chief. :Russell-Jay: Gould.

Great job. It occurs to me that you might have room for an additional shelf higher in the window

Great idea, and thanks for not getting carried away with: (1) countersink drills, (2) routed-over shelf edges, (3) etc. Looks sharp & does the job. BZ.
