Container Gardening 101!

Container Gardening 101!

Here at our urban nursery, we’re tight on space and we don’t always have the luxury of planting everything in the ground. If we’ve offered it for sale, then we’ve tried it in a container – from small trees to the tiniest rock garden treasures. And if we’ve learned one thing (OK – more than one thing, but that’s why you should watch the video) – it is this: SIZE MATTERS. As in, the size of your container is of essential importance. Those chubby, juicy roots are going to need space to spread out and if hindered, will lead to less than thrilling results. If you’ve been disappointed by how your containers have performed in the past then tune in – we’re going to give you some of our tried and true tips for how to do it right!

I lived in San Francisco for 15 years in an apartment. Hence, why I never knew you were there since I couldn’t plant anything. Now that I live in Terlingua, TX and have 20 acres to do with as I wish, now I hear of you! I wish that I could have visited your what must be amazing nursery while living so nearby. Until I have a cabin on my 20 acres I’ve been planting everything in large containers until I can move onto the property. Your place is such a wonderful resource. Thank you! The Gaillardia and Hollyhocks that arrived are doing marvelously in this very warm weather. I’m curious to see what they will do when the temps are 115 F by June or July.

Oh Annie I am so glad I found your videos. I live in California and most of the videos on line are from places where it snows. So it’s wonderful to see someone with so much knowledge of the best plants to grow and when to plant them. Thank you so much!! I noticed you haven’t made any videos lately I’m hope you continue to make more videos.

I just purchased a 5 gal Japanese Maple. I want to put it in an extra large pot so I won’t have to repot every 2- 3 years since the pot will be a decorative, heavy ceramic one. Is this a bad idea?

I have very little space and want to maximize it and I want a lot of different flowers, so I am gonna plant mixed planters to get a cottage feel

You dont want to fill a pot that size with all that compost either, plant roots dont go down that far
