New Window Boxes for the Shade Garden // Gardening with Creekside

Come with us as we install and plant two new window boxes to our shade garden! Earlier in the season we took you on a garden tour of our shade garden alongside our driveway and outside of our kitchen, and one of our fabulous viewers suggested that we add window boxes to the space. I feel in love with the idea and immediately began planning the project. Today is the day where we plant these two massive hay racks with shade loving annuals from Proven Winners. Join me on this fun project and see the beautiful results!

Love these will definitely look at the site, just a suggestion, put a block of wood behind the baskets to lift them from the siding, that way the draining water doesn’t stain your siding, watching you from St. Joseph, MO, formerly Camden, SC.

Yaa!! I believe that viewer was me. When I saw you putting up your window boxes, I was wondering if you always did this every year anyways. I have recently just found your channel so I wasn’t sure what you had done in the past. I really believe you will love this new window box and the beautiful frame it will provide from the inside out. Happy growing!!

I always use a few soil moist granules in hay racks, pre-hydrated. Really helps keep water from pouring through, especially when put at the very bottom.. I love hayracks, keeping them damp will be easier in the shade. They look great!

Gorgeous window planters. I hope in a week or so you show us how they’ve developed over time. Loving your channel!

  23. Nicola M on February 28, 2022 at 12:28 am

You have the loveliest figure and clothes.. they’re simple but stylish. I love that tshirt. Very youthful and cute ☺ ps, you ‘might’ need to get window stickers. We have planters and the birds dont see the window panes just the reflections of trees and plants – without the stickers (you can get pretty ones off Amazon) the birds sometimes strike the window. That tip is for all viewers to prevent bird deaths ☺x

    “Disneyland gardener” 😂
Who doesn’t love Disney, but I don’t have a Disney budget but once every couple of years.
So it puts me in the watch it grow category, which I love both.
    Great video.

Love the window boxes. You said these are shade plants but will get some morning sun. I am looking for plants and color for full shade. I want to do some containers on my back porch and it gets NO sun. I am finding ot hard to find flowers/plants with color. Thanks for any help or advice you could give.
