British General IP66 13A 2-GANG DP Weatherproof Outdoor Switched Socket – Review

British General IP66 13A 2-GANG DP Weatherproof Outdoor Switched Socket – Review

I have bought quite a few of these outdoor weather proof sockets over the years and never done a review on them, they are good quality and we’ve never had any issues so this time I thought I’d do a review and unboxing. This item was bought from Screwfix (see link below):

Overall the unit is good quality, it features a weatherproof latched lid which is dust tight and double 13amp sockets (individally switched, neon power indicators). It’s manufactured from impact resistant polycarbonate making it robust and they are multiple gland entry points including one in the back for a nice flush mounting option.

The weatherproof protection offered is IP66, and the lid has locking tabs which helps to keep everything sealed, it’s ideal for any garden/shed/workshop environment. The lid is also partially see through which makes it easy to see which socket is turned on. On the rear of the socket the eath, neutral and live terminals are all colour coded and it has in-line terminals that have captive screws.

I mentioned we have used these sockets before and after some years they have never had any water ingress. If you’re thinking about buying one of these outdoor sockets then we hope our video is of some use, thanks!

What size drill bit do you use to drill through the wall for the cable
