DIY Water Bottle Hydroponic System for Propagating and Herbs
DIY Water Bottle Hydroponic System for Propagating and Herbs
Learning how to make a hydroponic system doesn’t have to be hard – in fact, this is barely a tutorial at all! I used heavy duty 1″ net pots from my friend CZ Garden, who sponsored this video, to make the simplest repurposed water bottle kratky system that I could imagine.
It’s perfect for propagating, growing herbs, or taking cuttings of your houseplants. Better yet, these little net pots are so cheap that you’re only limited by your creativity. DIY cloning systems with these would be a breeze to make.

What’s the size of the net pot?
I just put my cuttings into a bottle of water and they all seemed to root just fine.
@Epic Gardening
glass jars work alot better as they have more weight which means you can grow a bigger plant
cotton balls could work out alot better than the coco mix as medium, just found a similar type on ebay seem quite useful for propagation to harvest
awesome video. Ive watched a lot of how to videos for hydroponic gardening and hands down this little video was perfect. This is going to be my first project on my road to learning this. I don’t even have to buy anything! I have everything i need right now to go set it up. Thanks for a well done video. New Fan here:)

hello kabayan! so useful info!
This video is nice and helpful
you were gonna need quite a short one. why than cutting so long and once more shortening?
Cool videos your the best.
Would this work with perlite?
HELLO MY SCIENCE TEACHER IS USING THIS VIDEO BC HE THINKS ITS GOOD OK BYE
hi im kinda very new to this, can i ask what kind of soil did you use? And did you put something in it? thank you a lot 🙂
Nice, CZ 1" is my go-to. I cut 1.5" rockwool in 1/4’s. I do it more for cost savings. Funny, I tried to seed something in coco… packed it too tight, will try again.
Witch chemical mix in
would this work without the soil? can you have the cutting hanging just above the water and allow it to evaporate straight onto the suspended cutting?
I’ll use it on my Salad?? Your funny!

Pls like comment and subcribe.
I don’t have a net pot🤧😭😢🤧🤧
Beautiful, freshwater no nutrition?
thanks! can you show us how to make or mix nutrient solution for hydro, thanks again bro! morepower!
Are you worried about the water sitting and the plastic leeching into the plant?
Very useful tips
Its will not grow, bcos the stem is still young, cant produce roots.. better pick basil has old stem.
not really hydroponic though since your using soil
A great idea indeed!
Thanks for sharing this video.
It will really help especially those who want to start hydroponics.
Happy planting. Happy growing.
God bless😇💚
Couldnt you just diy the rooting pot with a little creamer cup with some slits cut in it?
You can also use an extended water bottle cap with holes in it instead of the net pot
Would you use rooting hormone here? BTW love you and your videos.
I should have asked this week’s ago. Lollllllllllllllllllllllll! I know nada about plants. We did these in my classroom. What do we do once they have roots?! Lol. Do we just plant them like this, or do we cut them out and plant them? Do they stay in the bottles? (Ahhhhhh!) Help! 🙂 FYI, they loved this!
I been experimenting with cotton balls for starting seeds.
Place them in q little net pot,
Insert my seeds, wet the cotton and place in sealed container.
So that way I just pop in my reservoir and plants good to go.
Way cheaper than rockwool.
Can we just put aluminum foil to cover the water. Will this also help in making ng water stay a little bit cool when expose in sun
Plastic shot glasses also work
What exactly name off that whitet little pot
Hey Kev ,its Kev from the UK lol , I have looked on amazon and a handfull of other sites but the way things are at the moment it is hard to find answers , if you could recommend or know of any all in one neutreint solution .many thanks
Love it… thanks!
How could I ‘DIY’ my own hydroponic nutrient solution? Thanks, great video.
Very informative video 👌👌👌
Nice easy
You can use tiny bottles which stores small amount of water & nutrients instead of a huge bottle
Wow! Amazing ideas. Always love your videos.
Have a lot of soda bottles, fruits packaging laying around the house. Will use them to grow many plants in high rise. 👍👍👍
I use something similar in my fish pond. It’s great. Can I get these netpots in Australia?
I have a question as a rookie at hydroponics. My question is how much nutrients solution should I be adding for seedlings ?
Hello, do you by any chance have a list of seeds which germinate the fastest? Thank you!
Why doesn’t your sponsor change the design of his net pod so that it fits directly into the top of the bottle?
Would you have to keep this under a grow light until it roots??
Nope, CZ shorted my net pot order by almost half.
i just hang them in asprin water
Thank you for the great video. I am going to use this with a gardening club during virtual learning. It would be great if you had a follow-up video of how it grows and the next transition.
Nice
That is the cutest little baby net pot I have ever seen! Thanks for sharing this!
