Someone needs a cemnt mixer and some sbr , no barrow is all , i dont know why u bought a shovel , straight with the trowel from your little pile of "cement" will be faster

I got all my patio tips from Fred West. He uses dead bodies for the sub base. Gets a bit whiffy in the summer but you can bet its dead level.

  4. comebackkings on July 10, 2022 at 11:08 pm

Years ago when i was young my dad employed some ‘rogue traders’ to do our patio (we didn’t know they were rogue traders at the time). They bought the cheapest slabs they could find and didn’t do ANY of this. Just slapped it on the soil and we were none the wiser until it became apparent thats what they’d done and they weren’t legit for the job. Total criminals. As an adult now I don’t trust these traders and am looking to do the job myself with some youtube guidance.

Is it correct to allow the mortar to adhere to the building (be it brick/block/concrete) ? Or … should there be some separation using foam or dpc or similar ?

  8. Ryo Hazuki on July 10, 2022 at 11:13 pm

I mix mine in an old ice cream tub, it takes a while but it’s easier on my back.

  9. Aidan Harwood on July 10, 2022 at 11:15 pm

  15. Tim M on July 10, 2022 at 11:21 pm

Much easier and practical way to mix the cement is on then kitchen floor and let your mum clean it up after

  16. Nihilistichris on July 10, 2022 at 11:22 pm

Hire a mixer ffs, you need a wacker anyway so just throw a mixer in the order for £50

  17. Joe Cole on July 10, 2022 at 11:23 pm

Bollocks stupid guidelines 1 geo fix for pointing 2 washing slabs down ??? You end up catching the joints n making a mess of them 3 use a cement mixer 4 set up screed bars much easier and quicker 5 homebase is shite

  18. Star of David on July 10, 2022 at 11:26 pm

Mixing on a plastic sheet that’s a new on, 4 to 1 mix that’s another plus its usually a dry sand and cement mix.

  19. Ekaterina S. on July 10, 2022 at 11:27 pm

All these people complaining about mixing the cement, use just sand plus ready edging !

  20. Entire Cosmos on July 10, 2022 at 11:27 pm

Why use a level if there’s a slope?.

  21. FashionX on July 10, 2022 at 11:28 pm

  24. John Kilvington on July 10, 2022 at 11:33 pm

Experts don’t lay on a wet mix! He’s using pegs, not pins? Can’t get a tight string on pegs. Gordon bennet! He as Bad as they come!

    What a load of nonsense.

  30. Jamie Price on July 10, 2022 at 11:38 pm

So amateurish,,,, avoid all this advice

  31. Stuart Linsell on July 10, 2022 at 11:38 pm

can you use gravel instead of sub base stone, if your only doing a garden path

  32. Wakka Wagga on July 10, 2022 at 11:38 pm

I really hope they have no winter at all where they live. They dug a 6 inch hole and filled it with a tiny amount of gravel. What do you think happens when the tiniest amount of water goes into that area or below it? The water will freeze, expand and rip that patio.

Please look up how deep you should dig in your area so water can drip through the gravel to a depth where it is above freezibg temperature even in the harshest winter.

I guess they magically measured 2-3 degree decline, so the water doesnt stay on the patio or even worse gathers at the house wall.

They also have nothing prohibiting the whole patio to move away from the house by a few fractions of an inch. In the next decade you will see a giant crack between house and patio.

A patio is way more complicated than you think. You can prepare a lot of stuff, but i would always call a professionel to finish the job.

  33. Ayub Ebrahim on July 10, 2022 at 11:39 pm

Nice job & instruction – Made it look so easy !

  35. H B on July 10, 2022 at 11:45 pm

  37. Billfrom Overthehill on July 10, 2022 at 11:51 pm

Maaate one shovels worth in that first mix…. bs! What a bodge!

  38. Richard Raymond on July 10, 2022 at 11:52 pm

Never knock up on a plastic sheet!
    Experts my arse

  39. SileTa Mus on July 10, 2022 at 11:54 pm

How thick are the slabs, mortar and sub-base individually? A total of 150mm doesn’t mean anything..

  40. Drunk bee on July 10, 2022 at 11:55 pm

Step one , hire a contractor.
Step two , sit down and drink beer and watch them work .

  41. Jayc Speedier on July 10, 2022 at 11:56 pm

How do you mark the levels with the string?

  42. Kelvin K on July 10, 2022 at 11:57 pm

I prefer the wheelbarrow and so does my wife 🕺🏽🕺🏽🕺🏽

  43. R251400 on July 10, 2022 at 11:57 pm

Out of all the videos I watched; the only one which identified my ant problem – spot mortar or just sand under my patio slabs, laid by the previous owner.

  44. Matrix Resin on July 10, 2022 at 11:57 pm

Youse a mixer never knock up by hand, you won’t get it mixed properly, failing that a paddle mixer at the very least you can get them for 30quid eBay etc

  45. Blue Bull on July 10, 2022 at 11:57 pm

Am I correct in assuming the proper form is to hire a cement mixer, this prevents ripping the plastic sheet.

  46. Shuva Dey on July 10, 2022 at 11:59 pm

Great instructional video. Better to mix on a plywood board. I have been using mine for 14 years!

  47. Captain Tubby on July 10, 2022 at 11:59 pm

    Lmfao

  48. Bertie Buckley on July 11, 2022 at 12:02 am

Just go to a ready mix company with a trailer and get some cement – sand floor screed & lay the slab on at least 70mm of screed putting some unibond on back of slab first

  49. Toki Longsmokes on July 11, 2022 at 12:03 am

I have been a Stonemason for years we mixed everything in a wheelbarrow.

  50. Caio on July 11, 2022 at 12:04 am

Wouldn’t be easier to mix the sand and cement in a bucket instead of the floor?
